Comrades, RIP: In St. Paul's Evergreen Cemetery in Bloomingdale, IL, lie 9 soldiers from the War of 1812 and 26 soldiers from the Civil War. Union headstones are rounded; Confederate, pointed. Also here lies beloved comrade Otto Knapp, our All-State Post Commander, 1994-95. Some 68 veterans are buried in this cemetery, with graves indicated by markers donated by the Bloomingdale Historical Society and the Bloomingdale VFW Post 7539.

Post member Don Petges receives medal from Congressman Peter Roskam.

October 12, 2010 (LOMBARD, Ill.) (WLS) -- Seven veterans received military medals Tuesday night in a ceremony honoring hometown heroes in Lombard. Congressman Peter Roskam's office was able track down the veterans' lost paperwork and resolve outstanding questions.

The medals include a Purple Heart awarded posthumously to Fred Biehl, Sr. who was wounded in World War II, and service medals awarded to his sons Donald and Fred Biehl, Jr. who served in Vietnam. Fred, Jr. also received two Bronze Stars. Copyright ©2010 WLS-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
